The beginning of the future is here, although forced upon us to race with time and make peace with a world that will wear masks, scrutinize every single public interaction and create a unified population with a single goal of making our planet virus free.
A question that keeps pondering over in my head during the
un-countable days of being locked up in my home:
How will security camera recognize faces, when I myself
fail to recognize people under masks?
I finally have stumbled upon an amazing answer, or say
technology instead; periOcular technology
Believe it or not Artificial Intelligence has helped un-mask
people.
Active match is an artificial intelligence driven solution
developed by pdActive that can be applied to existing security systems and
provide facial recognition, behavioral analysis insights under the present
conditions. The engineering teams at pdActive have used deep learning, big
data, AI and other advanced technology to reach where they are today.
What is the problem faced?
It is very difficult to identify humans when 60% of the face
is covered with masks. Combined with different viewing angles, accessories such
as hat and faces without mask it can seem virtually impossible to identify
faces.
How has this been solved?
pdActive’s periOcular technology quickly matches faces along
with millions of subjects.
What is the periocular region and how does it help?
Periocular technology has been an emerging trend for facial
recognition where there is no possible way to have full face or iris
recognition. The area around the human eye is called the periocular region and
has highly differentiating properties in different humans (like the stripes of
a zebra, spots on a cheetah). It is a relatively permanent trait and is highly
recognizable from distances.
